环境教育培训活动 Environmental Education Training Event
上周六我在华南濒危动物研究所举办了一期环境教育和社区宣传的讲座和培训。是由华南濒危动物研究所的一位龟类专家龚世平博士，为了一个广东省龟类和蛇类保护项目的志愿者安排的。参与者有学生志愿者，绿眼睛中国代表，研究所代表和保护野生动物协会的领导。15位志愿者都来自广州的各个大学。他们已准备了一些资料，打算到时介绍给项目当地的学生，护林员，和政府部门的人员。
我们讨论了环境教育和社区宣传，环教和自然教育的历史，与志愿者的重要性。我也分享了我在西大明山冠斑犀鸟项目中获得的经验，讲授了一些环教活动，也介绍了如何进行环教资料的设计。

This past Saturday I was invited to do an Environmental Education and Community Outreach training event at the South China Institute for Endangered Species. Dr. Gong Shiping, one of China's top turtle experts, hosted this training event for a group of volunteers working on a turtle and snake conservation project in northern Guangdong Province. The participants included student volunteers, representatives from Greeneyes, staff from the institute, and staff from the Wildlife Conservation Society. The 15 volunteers are students from various universities around Guangzhou. They have created presentations and materials for students, park rangers, and local government officials which they will present at the conservation site.
We talked about the concepts of environmental education and community outreach, the history of environmentalism and the nature education that followed its development, and the importance of volunteerism. I shared with them my experience in the XDMS hornbill project, taught them a few practical conservation education activities, and gave them a quick introduction to outreach materials design.
It was a great event! Thanks to everyone who participated. Thanks to Dr. Gong Shiping from the South China Institute for Endangered Species for arranging this event and Michel Chow for her help, Zhang Guihong Program Manager, and Zhang Mingxia Program Officer, of Wildlife Conservation Society for attending, and Dr. Michael Lau and the rest of the staff from KFBG for giving me this opportunity. Special thanks to all the great volunteers for giving their time to protecting the environment.
